River Hex Map 001 Key -
Scale
1 hex = 352 yards. For orientation, consider North to be at the top of
this map... A gentle River runs roughly north to south in this 5 mile hex.
The major river ranges from 800-1200 feet wide, and 1-77 feet deep. The
Northern river goes to a maximum depth of 28 feet, and ranges from 200
to 450 feet wide. Each elevation line is roughly 340 feet wide (110M),
and 41 feet high.(14M). The highest hilltop on this map is only 95 feet
above the ground level. The majority of the trees here are Shagbark Hickory
trees. The pine trees are large Larch type pine trees 80' tall. The Hickory
is a 70' to 80' tall tree is found in rich soils on slopes and valleys.
The wood of all the hickories is heavy, hard, and strong and used principally
for tool handles. Hickory is a valuable fuel wood and is used to give a
smoked flavor to meats. Archaic uses included bow-wood, and wheel spokes
for carriages and carts. The nuts are much relished by man and wildlife.
You can crush the kernel, using the oil for cooking and the resulting flour
for bread.
